Hi Guys,
I,m hoping some of you can give me some pointers on a couple of Sabrer GT5080s that I picked up recently. I dont know much about them but they're 5'6" graphite strokers. I want to build them for fishing with braid for yellowfin here in the 50 to 100kg class. I already have the butts sorted, but was wondering what the best guides for these might be. I've narrowed the choice down to 3 in my mind, but I would appreciate some final pointers before I ship them in here. The tried and trusted would be the AFTCO HD rollers throughout, but they tend to be rattle and a little heavy which puts me off them a bit. The Amtac titanium nanolite turbos sound like they may be good with a roller tip, and there wont be a problem with corrosion, but thats if they are strong enough. The Fuji BHBNG, or CHBNG silicon nitride II model I think would look really great, but are they up to the job. The latyer two models I have never handled, so I dont have much idea about them exept for the blurb for them-Or is there something more suitable other than those I have mentioned. I'm not really worried to much about the cost so long as they are right for the job. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Re: Guides for Sabre GT5080s

The Aftco's just plain work. You can probably find "better" guides, but the fact is, they work and do the job at a very respectable cost to performance ratio.
I tend to lean towards rollers once I get past the 50lb class type rods. The Fuji LRSG are great for stand-up rods in the under 50lb realm. For ceramics on trolling rods in the 30 to 80lb class, the old Fuji RSG (or similar from other makers) will do the job with no problem. There may be other guides that will work equally well. I have trouble keeping up with all the latest offerings these days. ................ Re: Guides for Sabre GT5080s

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the pointer. I have to agree with you that AFTCOs just plain work. The proof is that they have been around for so long I have kind of got bored with them. I just wanted to see if there was anything that would allow me to get some creative juices flowing, and not rattle. At least I know I wont go wrong if I use the AFTCOs !
