I stopped by one of the local "Big Box" sporting goods store this afternoon and was struck by the number of different colors rods are available in. Green, Blue, Red, Mohogany etc... These are not painted blanks, the color is in the blank. I would like to use similar blanks but I can not find them anywhere. Why not?

Jim,

The color is not "in" the blank. The finish is applied after the blank is made at the factory. Some companies, Lamiglass, CTS and Graphite USA will custom color blanks for you Various companies use different colors for their different lines, but the majority of the rods/blanks are black or gray. A lot of builder paint/color blanks by various methods. Some have body shops do them. Do a search on this site fo painting blanks and select ALL DATES and you will get a lot of info.

Right, graphite rod blanks are grey, period. If you find one in another color, it's been added.
