Thread/epoxy problem

I just put the finish (threadmaster)on a section of a 3pc rod and the color of the male ferrule is darker on one side than on the other. Ferrule was coated first, all the guides colored up evenly. It's as if the epoxy penetrated more on one side than on the other. Should I let it go and hope it evens out or remove it now? All wraps were fro the same spool and same batch of epoxy. Any Ideas why this is happening? Re: Thread/epoxy problem

Greg,
Did you use any CP and what thread were you using? If it were me, I'd probably just let it cure then reinspect it. You can always take it off later and rewrap it if neccessary. My .02. Randy. Re: Thread/epoxy problem

Thankfully it was an easy ferrule wrap. I would strip the thread off and rewrap. Wet the thread throughout as quickly as possible.

Sounds like it might be thread contamination from something, before or after you got it. Might want to do what Lou suggested.

Greg,
In the last 3 weeks I have had 4 people that have contacted me with strange anomolies happening with their finish/wraps. You know what it has been everytime? User induced contamination.....mostly airborne from aerosol sprays like Lysol or Glade that their wife had sprayed unbeknownnst to them in their wrapping area. Once it was a sizing agent that was applied to the bristles of the brush at the factory, but it's never the finish, I can guarantee you that. Those bottles are manf. in lots of 500, so if you're bottles were contaminated, so would 499 others be as well. Most likely it was some sort of contamination outside of the thread/epoxy. I had something like this happen to my too - wraps being unevenly colored. Its not the Threadmaster finish which is great and easy to work with, but in my opinion it has to be applied throughout the entire wrap at once and not as I did trying to fill the tunnels by applying small daps at the end of the guide feet and then waiting for it to bleed out along the guide foot. I then went back to the first guidewrap and applied finish to the rest of the wrap - they turned out in different shades and it looked as if the finish didnt penetrate the thread on the second coating. I also had problems with funny coloring on double wraps.
I have now removed the wraps which confirms that the penetration wasnt very good. I seem to remember that someone - maybe you Andy - had a suggestion to get better penetration. My guess - which is just a guess - is that a very small amount of finish has bleed into the thread that wasnt covered the first time and due to long working time has set a little closing the surface of the thread before I applied the rest of the finish. I have no wife, I wash my hands and use small plastic spatulas - so I blame it on me being an amateur. I will be usinig Threadmaster (because its so easy to get even and I have no bubbles) again but would like some ideas on how to improve on thread penetration ?
