olive blank thread

I am starting a new rod on an olive colored blank and would like to use an olive thread, but the gudebrod chart is not showing very good color on my machine - does anyone have experience with the different shades of green in Gudebrod? Or any other ideas of what might look good on Olive?

Hi Karen. I am not really sure what you may consider Olive but I am guessing that in Gudebrod you might want to find some old 358 if there is any still floating around. Next best guess is to go to a big yardage or thread store and look into Madeira Polyneon 40 wt.(approx. size A) It is embroidery thread and there are about 400 shades to pick from and if you cant find what you want there the who knows. If you use Madeira you might consider using CP over it however some say it isnt necessary. Good Luck.

There is an endless selection of colors you can display with the Gudebrod green threads. Don't forget you can shift color presentation shade with nylon, NCP as well as color preservers and tinting finish. If you want to be real particular with the shade try some samples on the area of the butt that the grip will cover. Olive tends to be drab so the nylon well packed with no CP may end up being what you want. You can also underwrap with metallic silver and top with a green nylon to get a very distinctive look. You imagination and patience will find the exact color you want. Always remember that the green nylon always darken when finish is applied with no CP. Packing is this case is everything.

Good Luck

Anglers Workshop (sponsor link at left) sells olive nylon size A thread (color 806) under their own label on 950 yd spools. I have used it several times and it comes out true olive. You must, of course, experiment with finishes on your particular blank to get the depth of color you desire. If you go with silk, there are numerous greens available from various suppliers that will come out olive.

Like Doc says, Madeira has many colors. I would use CP on the olive colors cause they would darken in alot.

Mudhole shows Gudebord as having a new color 1892 OLIVE the 6779 Med Olive does not look bad either and is relitively close to olive, but as with any color thee are many shades and hues with ever changing names (at least in the paint industry)

Dear Karen,

The Gudebrod thread color Olive Green (1892) is beautiful and blends well with the Rainshadow green and the StCroix Canteen Green Pearl.

Just finished a Rainshadow green with Gudebrod NCP Chestnut and Tan trim. Chose the colors to match the handle but thought that it looked great on the blank.
