Surf Rod Reel seat

I build saltwater fly rods here in new England, but a friend of mine wants a 9' surf rod built. I'm comfortable with everything but the size and style reel seat. Guides will all be fuji and it is a spinning rod designed for plug casting with a cork tape grip.
Is a FUJI DPSM22 satisfactory or should I go larger or smaller?

Go with whatever size fits his hand, within the realm of what will fit on the blank. Obviously, you can't put a size 22 reel seat on a blank with an OD of 28mm at that point.

If the blank will accept a #20 reel seat. The Fuji NPS combined with cork tape is a very comfortable and streamlined set up. Have the customer decide which position of the reel seat feels best for them (uplocking or downlocking nut) and go from there.

If the budget permits consider the Fuji DNPSC Cobra Reel Seat. It is far and away the best made and strongest graphite reel seat I have ever seen or used. I've only seen it available in 18mm and 20mm ID's. My hope is that Fuji will add a 17mm version for Freshwater applications. I mounted mine in a downlocking configuration as I find it much more comfortable to avoid contact with the threaded end. This seat works great with both Spinning and Baitcasting reels. Priced at about $46.00 these are obviously far more costly than most graphite reel seats. Though lightweight they provide an extremely secure footing to reels. As soon as you touch the Cobra Seat you will appreciate the superiority of the material and craftmanship of this item as compared to all other Graphite seats.
