I was just wondering what some of you do to prevent skin oil on the thread when you wrap a rod, (butt wwraps or guides). I my self hate wearing gloves of any kind any time and any place, deep seeded childhood experince!!!
Any ideas or any comments Please! Thanks Tim Re: Skin Oil

Not much reason for your fingers to be on the thread very much. And what little contact does occur, isn't going to hurt anything unless you have something else on your fingers. Just wash your hands before you begin and try not to handle anything that would leave your hands greasy or oily.

Tim, before you get too worked up about it, check out this post on the photo page by Mick McComesky:
[www.rodbuilding.org] It's possible you are seeing something other than oil residue in your wraps, such as incompletely mixed epoxy, which will have swirls in it after it cures. They look like the contour lines on a topographic map. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/21/2006 02:23PM by Steve Kartalia. Re: Skin Oil

I wash my hands with soap and water and when working with white thread, I go one step further and wipe my hands off with alcohol and a paper towel. If its hot, I might wipe my hands off with alcohol even more often to keep the thread white and bright. Rich Matranga Folsom, California Re: Skin Oil

I try not touch the thread but also keep a bottle of alcohol based hand sanitizer on my bench and wash and wipe with paper towels. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
