Rick,
One of its uses is to remove the fuzz that sometimes occurs on your wraps or the the nub of thread when you cut the excess when finishing your wraps. With practice this nub can be eliminated, but when first starting these nubs do appear. By using an alcohol lamp, these can be removed. I use an alcohol lamp for ths purpose but others use butane lighters. Since they are inexpensive, I would acquire one.

Rick, the best alcohol lamp I believe you can get is a product that actually is used in the dental industry. It is made by Buffalo Dental MFG., Inc., Syosset, NY 11791. It is Item # 82440. You can probably Google it and find it, but you'll need a dentist to order them. I had my dentist get them for me. They are inexpensive enough to order two, and I recommend that. Check it out.

Here is a picture of the torch Fran was talking about (Pg. 44)

Russ Pollack can get them for you. It is a very useful torch but even better toy. You can shoot fire something like ten feet.

I know that some of the sponsors on the left carry the alcohol torch (Merrick Tackle, Angler's Workshop for sure). I assume the sponsor price would be less than your local dentist.

That alcohol torch or something nearly identical to it is available from Angler's Workshop, one of our sponsors on the left.
