ALERT!! These two things are not compatible!
Doing some wood rod work and was going to need a pretty good amount of PG, so I went to pour some into a mixing cup and the first ones I touched where some of my cheap ones, not the standard graduated mixing cups. Halfway through working, I noticed a steady stream of PG running off my bench to the floor. The bottom of the cup melted into my bench. Now I have a mess to get cleaned up. On the bright side, I don't think I'll need an exterminator for a while, though I may have turned some spiders into junkies. hahaha. Just something to keep in mind. I did that once, too. Mine ran off the bench onto the top of one of my good running shoes. Is the bite of a chemically impaired spider as dangerous as a radioactive spider bite? Don't go Spiderman on us. LOL. I use a heavy bottomed shot glass for Perma-Gloss. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Permagloss and cheap condiment cups

I use a simple aluminum foil 'bowl'. I double up a piece of foil and press it into the center of a roll of masking tape. Makes a neat little bowl that is disposable when ready.

Ralph, I'm sort of scared of spiders so don't start with me... lol
Jay, that's a pretty good idea, for a lot of applications! It isn't often that I need enough PG that I can't use it out of the bottle, but when I have to I always used the "standard" mixing cups. I have used condiment cups for epoxy finishes and various wood finishes for a long time with no problems. Even though I know how hot PG is, it never occurred to me that it might burn through a cheap cup. Shame on me for not listening to the "little man" in my head that told me it might happen. Happened to me the first time I used Permagloss...lol
I also use the 2oz plastic condiment cups for epoxy and such. The first time I tried Permagloss I simply poured some into one of those things. Within minutes I noticed the cup was taking on a life of its own. Luckily I had it laying on a bed of aluminum foil that just happened to be laying there and I was too lazy to pick up before I started work. See...laziness does pay off !!! Mick, I agree with you about most spiders, but one I like. It's a big harmless Golden Orb spider that keeps my wife out of my shed/workshop. A big (almost 3ft. diameter) web beside the door. I tell her "leave her alone, she eats bugs." It works so far. LOL. This is the third year with the same spider, I think, building in the same spot. Good luck with your rod finishes. Been there... I now put foil into one of those condiment containers. Works perfectly. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
