Does the size of the wrap matter on a rod? Does it make it stiffer or softer? Luis Villarreal www.bass_v_rods@yahoo.com Rio Grande City, Tx Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/01/2006 05:15PM by Luis Villarreal. Re: long wraps

What kind of wraps are you talking about? Guide wraps or decorative cross wraps? And how long is long? Re: long wraps

Any time you add weight, you reduce the efficiency of the rod. More thread (and more finish) particularly near the tip area, will slow the response and recovery of the rod. In effect, it will "feel" softer and react less quickly.
Now if you're talking about a long butt wrap, it won't be much of an issue. The same concept holds true, but you'd be putting it in a location where it will not have anywhere near the effect that it would have out nearer the tip. ......... Re: long wraps

Longer guides wraps have the same effect - the more thread and the more finish, the more weight. And this does indeed harm rod performance, particularly when they're added near the tip area.
Obviously, a heavy surf or boat rod can withstand more of this kind of thing than can smaller, lighter rods where the percentage of weight being added will have a proportionally greater effect. ......... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
