Ultra Fine Glitter

When using ultra fine glitter in epoxy, will the glitter be sticking out on the surface after it dries? Will I need to apply a thin 2nd layer of epoxy to make sure no glitter protrudes out to the surface of final coat?

Marvin, yes. It has been my experience that it may take 3 coats. I lightly sand the first coat with a nail board (fine side). After the second coat you'll be the judge of wether your satisfied or not.

Regular glitter does but the Ultra fine should be good. I use the ULTRA FINE glitters from craft stores quite a bit and have never had it stick up. It's fine it's almost powder. Great stuff but keep in mind that a LITTLE goes a long way!

Be aware that it also thickens the epoxy and shortens the working time. You might want to make two smaller batches rather than try to do the whole rod with one batch. Also, don't mix the glitter in too agressively as it can sometimes make the epoxy a bit cloudy looking. Just a thought...

Yes in general, you will need a second coat. We use the "buffing" side of the nailbord to smooth the surface of the first coat.

As was said before, a LITTLE goes a LONG way!

I have found a second coat is only needed when I use a lot of U.F. glitter in the epoxy. On a light amount of U.F.glitter, I have found no additional coats of epoxy are needed, especially when I'm using Threadmaster.

I have never had a problem with bumps. What I did notice is glitter will break any ultra fine bubbles. Glitter has a tenancy to settle to the bottom of the container. I let my glitter finish almost get tacky on the rod and lightly flame it. This allows me to take off any excess finish by wickeing it off

Thanks for the information. I just completed a rod and it came out great. I placed a decal after the first coat with ultra fine glitter dried and then placed a 2nd coat to seal the decal. It came out great with not flaws.
