I need help with a cork handle that i glued on and forgot to put masking tape at bottom of cork handle. Any suggestions how to remove cork handle without tearing up the rod blank. Thanks Chris Re: dumb mistake

Thye only thing I have seen work for reel seats is to put it in a plastic bag and place in boiling water.
Unfortunatley the cork will probably insulate the epoxy so I am guessing you are screwed. Re: dumb mistake

I'm guessing the bottom of the cork has a larger ID than the blanks OD
and it's now wobbling on the blank. Is that your problem? Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: dumb mistake

I'm a bit mystified about what the problem is. What was the tape supposed to be for?

Sounds like the masking tape was used to make a shim, because the id of the cork is bigger than the od of the blank. Re: dumb mistake

You can try the boiling water, but you may wind up having to cut the cork off and carfeully scrape the blank clean afterwards, with some light sanding to prep it for the next grip.
For the next grip, you'll want to be careful not to have too much of a gap between the cork and blank. If you have to shim, try to continuously shim as much of the length of grip as you can, rather than just making one "arbor" at the end. Otherwise you'll have either a large air pocket that can lead to grip failure down the road, or be filling up the air pocket with way too much epoxy. Using/building up cord works very well for this in grips. Just makes for a better build, IMO. Re: dumb mistake

What type of rod are we talking about? Fly, spinning, casting? Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
