Fuji has a BGC8512C handle that mates with their IPSM model reel seats. Can the "scarf" that fits the seat on this handle be easily duplicated? Thanks. Re: Can Fuji's handle for the IPSM be duplicated?

Can you direct me to a photo on the anglers resources site? I can't picture this in my mind. Re: Can Fuji's handle for the IPSM be duplicated?

looking at the picture, seems pretty clear to me that it would be difficult to do it properly. If your consider using it on your float rod build, I'd think about it. Although its a neat idea(similar to the tapered reel seat that JC tackle has made popular) The reel seat may not fit your float reel's feet. Also being a 16mm, it would be too narrow for my taste. I perfer a 18 or 20 mm on a float rod if your going with spinning reel seat, a thicker od is more comfortable. I personally have used struble 4m or fergeson skeletons and pac bay u8 fly reel skeletons with wood inserts. You could always give it a shot. Id just use the cork that comes with the reel and samd to shape. Good luck with ur build, ur putting a lot of thoght into it. Re: Can Fuji's handle for the IPSM be duplicated?

Tim,
We're having our annual "Scarf Sale"! Kidding... We stock that piece on it's own as a "cork adapter" (BGS25C) which allows you to build your own grip with cork rings, or to mate a pre-formed grip to. Here's a pic --> [] I'm not sure if that answers your question or if you're trying to replicate this adapter from a different kind of cork? Unless you've got some pretty advanced tooling, I wouldn't try it. The wall thickness on these gets to be VERY thin (under 1/8") where that radius is mortised into the front and without something like an Overarm Router to make the cut, you would have a very hard time not fracturing it. The adapter in fact comes with a removable machined "block" inside to support the walls during shipping because they're so thin. If you WERE going to try making this piece, it would be done with a cove or "core box' cutter of aprox. 3/8" radius, followed be a straight cutter out the front. If you want to try it, let me know and I'll get you exact measurements as this radius is more than likely metric. Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Edited 1 time(s). Tim,
The Classic Custom Wood site to the left has a tutorial. You could also have Ray build you what you need. Re: Can Fuji's handle for the IPSM be duplicated?

Al you need is a drum sander, push teh cork up to it and it's done. It's really easy...provided you have teh tools. I don't, so I just use a different seat. Ray has some kick ass handles with this seat made out of wood. Re: Can Fuji's handle for the IPSM be duplicated?

Hey guys, I'm still around. Just checking in every couple of days.
All you need to do is buy one of these grips. Use it to make a form. Take a 2X4 plow out the middle of it to fit the diameter - use a dado blade in a table saw, router, chisel, what ever. Next step, get some bondo (auto body filler) put it into the groove you just cut in the 2X4 - wrap the grip with wax paper and push it into the groove. Whe the bondo has set ( 20 minutes or so) pull the grip out. Next you have to mark for the cut out "scarf" as you've called it. You want this to be parallel, so carefully trace the "scarf" on the side of the 2X4 and cut the waste out. Carefully sand to the line with what ever and you now have a jig to index your handle blank once properly sized to fit the jig. Hope this is clear and a help, if not send me a note and I'll try to help further.
