I just received a two piece rod back with a replacement tip section blank that had broken on me this past spring. While the replacement tip is the same length as the original tip, the replacement section slides onto the male ferrule of the rod 4 inches which is just about twice as far as the original tip. I have never heard of a ferrule slidnig this far down and I am afraid that this will affect how this rod casts. I am already not happy about this situation since I was required to pay to replace a warranteed blank that broke for no apparant reason and that I was the original purchaser of. Any insights you may provide are very much appreciated.
Thank you. Jim Smith Re: Question about replacement blank

The amount of overlap between the old and new sections should be reasonably the same. I don't know what type blank you're working with, but other than some heavy surf type blanks, 4 inches of overlap is an awful lot.
The factory guys should have properly fitted a new tip section. It sounds like they just pulled one of the same model out the bin and sent it to you without checking for proper fit. I'd contact them and express my concerns. Something doesn't sound right. ............... Re: Question about replacement blank

I concurr 4 inches is excessive and might exceed and MFG designed ferrule reinforcment....thus causing a flat spot in the rod arc when loaded, where as a smaller overlap has the same pressure applied to a smaller area and more influence over it. (thus arcing) whats worse is the fact that MFG's now make you return both sections so that they can properly fit a new tip section to your old original butt section. Otherwise you might as well just call them and have them send you out another tip section for that model and play pot luck with the fit ....saving yourself shipping to them and paying a possible return shipping fee. I guess they do need to see if the break was caused by a defect in materials or workmanship. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
