Just looked at Jim Rippe's tartan posted on the photo page. Great work, but I, like Billy V. can't get finish on that thread without CP. Could it be the Threadmaster? Having to spend the time to baby a coat of finish is a pain. Looking at my selection of Maderia, there are so many light shades that even if they did darken up it would still result in a light wrap. I know I have problems with both Flex Coat and Supreme coverage on Maderia. What's up??? Re: Maderia without CP???

Grant......????????????????????
i ain't got a clue? I'm glad to see Jim's Tartan with Madeira, I've been telling people it won't work for some time. Similar to how I told people it wasnt' strong enough for guide wraps. Fortunately guys are doing things on tehir own and figuring it out for themselves with excellent results. I had a rod in Charlotte as a DEmo, had Pink & Purple wraps on it, at various stages of teh wrap (1 pass, 2 pass, last pass, etc). I put a coat of Permaglos on it, as well as a very heavy coat of Threadmaster. Both darkened the threads, I got no bleed through at all (not even the Pink). I did notice that the finish didn't fisheye with either, so who knows? Jim's rod has me dumbfounded that the threads went transparant. Edited 1 time(s). Yep...that's what I found. I'll take a page from your book and sit down tonight with some of the really light colors and see what happens with the bleeding. Still waiting to try the Threadmaster, but if that is what you and Jim used without the "uglies" I guess I'll have to push the other finishes to the back of the shelf. Re: Maderia without CP???

Grant, and evrerybody else, I don't baby my finish either. I have played around some with Madeira and never had any fish eyes with the Madeira thread. I have used LS Supreme in the past with no problem but this tartan was finished with Thread Master. The Madeira thread I used was the polyneon #40 in the small 400 Meter spools that I got from Joann Fabrics. This wrap is not the only one that I have done. Links to some samples.

Fisheyes get limited when mixing up a 'soaking thread" with a "partially soaking thread". Must have something to do with cohesion or adhesion or a solid just trying to get a grip. A tartan plaid still looks much better when done with more nylons IMHO. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
