Hi,

I normally put rather simple trim bands of around 4-6 threads of metallic onto the end of the wraps, and the rest of the wrap is a single colour. This is rather simple and for my newest rod, I thought I'd try something a lot more complex. The new design I have involves 3 colours (2 metallics and a single colour). The colours change at rather short intervals (from 1 single thread inlay to more).

I have my own technique and I've had a search of the forum to find other techniques, but my question is, does anyone have any photos they can put up of any wraps they have done with different colour transitions, but instead of the normal view that people put up, could you please put up the photos of the side of the rod that you normally hide so I can see the transitions?

I don't think mine are particularly messy, but it's always nice to see how others do it.

Michael; I don't have pictures but when I do guides with two feet I locate the start and stops of the trim bands under the guide between the feet if I can. They don't seem to show there as much as on the back side. Trim bands at the ends of guide wraps I put the tie off on the back side as most do.

Jim, that's what I'm also doing at the moment. However, the trim at the ends and the middle of the wraps is fully open in that the thread that wraps the guide on doesn't hide the joins.

Cliff, yep searched the photo site first before starting this thread. But as it appears to be mostly a showcase type thing, people always put the best presentation side to the camera (which is perfectly understandable). Its been great for ideas that's for sure, but not really for learning.

I realised why I didn't find that one when searching. The keywords you used wasn't what I thought they would be. I guess its hard to add keywords to something like that.

Other people may start and stop a trim band in different fashions with better results I'm sure. I just had the burl to post a pic of it with the hopes that someone like you could benefit from it. Hope it helps.
