I have just finished a very nice open wrap on a large (Musky) rod. I have never used CP on a wrap like this. I am using Flex Coat CP. Normally when I apply this CP to a closed wrap I remove the excess CP with a paper towel. I am concerned about doing this on an open wrap. Anybody out there have and suggestions on the proper method of applying CP on an open wrap.
Thaks as always, Jim Re: Applying Color Preserver

Be careful - applying a lot of CP to a wrap with that much thread can cause the thread to swell and ruin all your hard work. So, I would "tack" down the corners and centers with drops of CP. Then let that dry and apply your regular application of CP.
I've never understood any of this stuff about putting on a lot and then removing some. But if it works for you, go with it. I'd just load my brush and lower it to the wrap and rotate the rod under it, making sure you get a uniform darkening of all threads. This tells you that you've saturated things well enough. .............. Re: Applying Color Preserver

Just like finish, if you tr to be cheap and not use enough there is problems. Better to put on more then needed and be safe ! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
