Has anyone else had problems with using maderia thread when applying finish. I pack the threads as tight as I can and apply several coats of cp. When finish is applied the threads tend to move on me and I can not get them to lay together. Looks rather bad IMO. I know that Billy uses maderia alot and was wondering if you have had this problem also? Madfish Rods Re: Maderia thread

Brad.May be a tension concern.I know Billy wraps pretty tight.I had a wrap come loose after CP was applied due to not enough tension. That was with Guedbrod thread.

Sounds like Rayon disaster. What type of Madeira are you using? Re: Maderia thread

BIlly wraps pretty tight and squeezed a lot of threads into a small area, and doesn't rely on burnishing to fill in gaps. But most others do not. All it is is your tension, Madeira stretches a bit, someimes teh pattern slips when you tie it off. If it's your first time using it, just wrap it a little tighter next time and hopefully that takes care of most of the tension issues. Re: Maderia thread

@#$%& on the left also now carries it. Lori, if you get it at a fabric/sewing outlet, make sure that it is the PolyNeon #40 The rayon, etc is not suitable for rod building. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Maderia thread

I am using polyneon like you are suppose to. Thanks for the info. I will try using more pressure on the threads to see if they will stop moving on me. Re: Maderia thread

Where are the threads moving on you? At teh tie off point, or all over the entire wrap? Are you doing a lot of packing?
Brad, are you the guy in Charlotte with his son that got that test wrap from me last year? Re: Maderia thread

Billy, Yes I am the one. the threads started to move on me about 1 inch outside of the tie off band. AFter putting of cp and letting it dry, then appling finish they moved on me allowing the underwrap to show. Didn't notice it when i applied finish but after it had almost finished drying. In that case, more than likely it's either slipping on whatever you are securing the thread to teh blank with, or the entire wrap is slipping when you cut the threads while doing the tie off. Are you wrapping ff the foregrip (threads coming off the foregrip onto the blank)? If so, I do not have a solution for you, because I had this same problem - the way I fixed it was wrapping from the tip towards th butt.
Is it both sides of the patten, or just one? And if only one, and that side is where you're wrapping off the foregrip - that's your problem. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
