Hello, I'm looking for some information on building float rods (to be used with a center pin reel). I've built rods for about five years but this is a new format for me. With input from my customer, I've got the handle and reel seat configuration determined, but am interested in the typical size and style of guides used and general spacing of these guides. The rod will be 10' 6" with an overall handle length of about 22". Any input would be appreciated. Mark Boggs Springfield, OR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/26/2006 05:33PM by Mark Boggs. What is the blank rated at? Spinning or casting?

Since the rod (I'm assuming) will be used on your West coast salmon and steel a midframe spinning guide should work out just fine #20 for the butt guide to maybe #6 at the tip. As far as guide spacing goes I usually go with approx. one guide per foot and then adjust the spacing during the test casting and static testing. I don't have any set measurements for placement and this seems to work for me.
Good luck, Randy Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
