shaft coupler?

Ok, the jury-rigged coupling I had put together to go from my drying motor to my chuck finally gave out - thank goodness I noticed it before the chuck and the 8' musky rod I had on the dryer fell off! Anyways, I'm looking around for a 1/4" to 1/4" solid shaft coupler - does anyone know of a good source? I have found a few places on-line, but they typically have large minimum orders. I see a few that are tapped and threaded on one end on @#$%& - made specifically for rodbuilding. I'll go that route if I can't find a better source. Do any sponsors carry these things?

Check the "fasteners department" of your local hardware store. My local Ace Hardware carries such things.

Thanks Stan - I'll check there - I have a great Ace about 3 blocks from my house - looked there, but I will look again.

As a last resort you can always glue the chuck onto the shaft with Rod-Bond. I used Rod-Bond to glue one on and it has been holding for 2+ plus years and a lot of rods.

Rich,
Bob is right about using Rod Bond as the adhesive. If you don't find the exact coupling you are looking for at Ace I would bet you'll find something close enough that you can make a sound connection with the addition of Rod Bond. I turned a wooden pulley on my lathe that fits a 1/4 " gearmotor shaft and fastened it to the shaft with Rod Bond. It has provided several years of unfailing operation.

Does it have to be solid? I use Latex tubing, it acts as a U joint.
