Sulky silver metallic woes

I'm wrapping a rod's set of single foot guides using one silver metallic thread, a green metallic thread, and one more silver metallic thread for a trim band on some #6 single foots. After four tries with the Sulky silver metallic, it just kept showing the white nylon here and there. Looked terrible. I redoubled my efforts on the third and fourth to lessen the tension and also to ensure that my fingers did not slip and pull the sheathing away. I even held the thread in my fingers nowhere near where the thread would be used in the single inlay??

I switched to Gudebrod silver metallic A and had no problems; the trim band now looks great... anyone else notice this problem? I've had no problems with any other Sulky metallic that I've tried before; just this silver...

I just finished a rod with Sulky silver metallic for trim bands and inlays. No problem here. I'd bet you have a bad spool. I usually have fewer unraveling problems with Sulky metallic then with other brands.

Looking closely at the two spools of thread, the Sulky's silver sheathing is wrapped at a "looser" angle and doesn't overlap at all. The Gudebrod just looks tighter and is overlapped in appearance, anyway.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll get another spool when I next make the 270 mile journey to a place that carries it.

Putter, pick some up on line. There are numerous sources, including Mudhole.

Check out the FishHawk silver metallic, about the size of the old gudebrod A metallic, but much stronger and tighter weave. I use it a lot and like it, other colors just as good.
