I wanted to ask what company I should get my new flipping blank from? I've a an all-around rod good for most stuff I flip, but I need a rod for like 3/4-1oz. weights. I'm planning on making a split grip and Fuji Alconites w/ a Simple Spiral wrap. This rod is going to do some pretty heavy lifting, lots of weeds and brush. Any blanks suggestions? I've heard Shikari is great but any others? Re: Ex. Heavy Flipping blank?

I like the sound of the Batson IFS-90-6, sounds like what I'm looking at.Lamiglas is cool . I was wondering, anybody had any experience with a GUSA B79F?I know a guy who got one specially wrapped for heavy flipping and thoguht it was great. Think it has enough power? Edited 1 time(s). Well, this may come down to a choice between a
$65 Batson RainShadow-RX7 Model# IFS-90-6, verses a $117 GUSA Multi-Modulus Model GUSA 79F . Both of these rod blanks have very similar rod blank specifications, per the Vendor Listing at FS4U. … Lots of different factors to tally up with such a choice, but I’ll stop here. Good :Luck, Chris Rhoden. Looks like you can’t go wrong with either one. –Cliff Hall+++ BATSON ENTERPRISES - RainShadow & ForeCast Rod Blanks RainShadow RX7 FLIPP'N Stick Rod Blanks (Matte Clear) • RX7 Intermediate Modulus (43 million), High Strain Rate graphite • Magnum tapers for lifting power and ease of casting a variety of baits • Limited Lifetime Warranty - [www.FishSticks4U.com] IFS-90-6 ... I really can’t suggest the blank I prefer, because it can no longer be obtained. I own 6 flipping sticks on different blanks. My favorite is a Alstar IGB965 8ft. blank but they have stopped selling to rod builders. One suggestions I do make if you can, is to go with a one piece blank as apposed to a telescoping blank. It will save you as much 10oz. Off the weight. My last two have been one piece and hands down are lighter, more sensitive and the actions are better because I do not loose any with the doubling of the telescope section.
Although I have not built one on the Shikari blank, Rich Forhan say’s that the Shikari is the best blank for flipping stick because of its parabolic action. (which is why I like the IGB965 Alstar, it is actually a salt water blank) the parabolic action will help to keep more fish on. He says it a little heavy but worth it. Re: Ex. Heavy Flipping blank?

Andy Dear at Lamar Fishing just might have the All Star blank mentioned. It won't be listed on his site you'll have to call or email, but the price will make it worth it. The Graphite USA blanks are some neat stuff I have quite a few rods built on them, I imagine if you really tried you can break one, I have abused mine many times (35 lb salmon caught on 6 1/2 ft 2 power rod) and I've never felt like I was even close. Ugly stick tuff but light and sensitive. Re: Ex. Heavy Flipping blank?

Chris, I just built a Rogue 7'11" (711 FS7C) that might be what you want. The blank weighed 3.3 oz before build and is a pretty healthy blank but what else do you expect for a flipping stick.

Andy does not have any more of the IGB965 Alstar. Bought the one I have from him at the show. Have been trying to find another from any one ever since. With out success. Re: Ex. Heavy Flipping blank?

Thanks guys! You guys helped a lot. I'm still leaning towards the GUSA. It just has a bigger butt than the Batson, and I'll need it. I was also thinkin' about how tough the GUSAs are. I mean, I want a rod that will take a lot of abuse. And this rod is going to be 1 piece, I don't like telescoping rods when I do heavy lifting. But the height is a consideration too, the 7'9" is awesome. Perfect for real thick stuff close to the boat. It seems the model (B79F) I'm looking at is lighter and heavier power than the heaviest GUSA flippin model too... Thanks a bunch. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
