I was wondering if someone could explain to me how to do the simple spiral wrap. Is guide spacing the same. If I understand correctly you will probab;y use less guides. What degree do you place the guides as you progress past the guide closest to the reel seat. Any help you could give would be much appreciated.

Rich,
This was thoroughly covered in the volume 8 #2 issue of RodMaker. On the Simple Spiral, you have a butt guide at 0 degrees and all the rest are at 180 degrees. You can also do a quick search on this board's archives and turn up the exact directions for the Simple Spiral. Won't take you but a moment. ........... Re: Simple Spiral wrap

All you gotta do is set the guide spacing up as if you weren't going to wrap it spiral. Then you move all the guides except the biggest one, closest to the reel seat, 180 degrees (to the bottom). Then you add 1 additional guide (the bumper guide) This guide should be small and sit very close to the blank. (small ...#6 SF works good) exactly half way between the first two guides. This one is at 90 degrees to the first one. You should have 1 guide sticking straight up and all the rest going straight down, and the bumper guide stisking straight out. Right or left really depends on the side the reel handle is gonna be on. You want the bumper guide on the same side as the reel handle. Do NOT alter your guide spacing to add the bumper guide. Just split the distance betwqeen the first two guides and add it in. Good luck

Oops....You mean there is a simpler version than the bumper system...I didn't know myself that you could go straight to the bottom.....Sorry if I answered a question that you didn't even ask....LOL

Steve,
Actually you're right on the money. Good explanation. He won't have to search after reading your instructions. The basis for the Simple Spiral is just not to use any transition guides. The Bumper guide is an addition to the system and is there just to keep the line off the blank - it doesn't play any role in getting the line to the bottom of the rod. You explained it very well. Thanks. ............ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
