Old glass rod repair question

I purchased some old rods at a garage sale, one of which is a glass rod, in hopes of making it a gift for a friend that recently lost/broke his first rod (25 years). I am not interested in "replacing" Orange, but in giving him a classic style rod.
My question is this. This rod has some flaking of the outer coating and is that any indication to the integrity of the rod? I would hate to put the time, effort and materials into something that is to far gone. Thank you in advance. Also, is there a way to access old articles in the library and not just the recently posted? Thanks Re: Old glass rod repair question

You can access any of the articles listed in the library. To get access to the other odd-hundreds of articles, you'll have to buy the back issues. They are not now nor have ever been posted on the internet.
If the flaking is just old paint or finish, then you're in good shape. Generally you can tell if its the rod itself because the fibers will continue to unravel or pull out if you lift them. They're continuous so they don't generally "flake" or "pop" off. That sounds more like finish or paint to me. ........... Re: Old glass rod repair question

Hi Justin,
You can use the search feature here by clicking the search button. Use any author and "all dates". If you type "blank refinishing" in the search box it will take you days to go thru all the info! Sounds like old finish flaking off to me. No sweat! You can refinish or leave as is. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Old glass rod repair question
