Rod Building w/Kids

Ijust did a rod building event with BigBrothers-Big Sisters this past weekend. I hand 3 boys and 1 girl along with an adult building a rod with them. You cannot believe the gratification and FUN it is to see kids build something that they are able to walk away with and use and ENJOY. It is one of the greatest projects i have ever been involved with. If you ever get a chance to build rods with young kids take the chance at doing it, you wont regret it.

Al, great job. It's great to see people sharing what they know with children, giving them an alternative to video games and the internet, as well as possibly keeping them out of trouble. Good luck with your next event....when is that one planned?

I'm sure we will have more soon, Ron Walter usually lets me know when he has one coming up.

I love working with the KIds too Alan. I give three 3 day classes to be drawn for this little community I live in. At the end the guys/gals leave with their own rod and big smiles. They seem to enjoy it but not half as much as I do. The principal of the HS said nearly 70% of the seniors had signed up for the drawing. It is always good fun and I am waiting for the classes to start......Have a good day guys.

Batson offers a teachers kit that was explained to me at the show in Charlotte.A great system they offer to teach rod building.

Hats off to you Al, and to anyone who takes the time to show a kid that a fishing rod isn't just something that is on a rack at a local store with a reel and a price tag attatched to it.
