I got a nice hand written letter from Chuck Roberts this morning. Many of you will recognize him as the guy who really popularized the spiral wrap in the 1970's and 80's. He's doing well, still making and selling rods and has recently come up with some new twists in casting rod set up. He's working on an article for the magazine that we'll probably run late in the summer.

Sounds great. A lot of people still refer to a spiral as a "Robert's Wrap". Didn't know who it was named after, though.

LOL! Chuck still thinks he INVENTED the spiral wrap! What he did do was make it popular. Guys saw his design and many sold it under the name 'Roberts Wrap' and it stuck. He did do a lot to make it more popular. I'm surprised he's still around. I'm surprised I'm still around!

The Spiral Wrap was named the Roberts Wrap by Joy Dunlap who learned the wrap from Chuck Roberts of then Kansas City at a rod show. Joy makrked his rods "Roberts Wrap by Joy Dunlap.". The last that I heard from Joy, he was still wrapping rods in his garage, no longer operation the shop in Destin.. Good to hear that Chuck is still a member of the rodmaking community.
