Spiral/Acid wrap: Practical minimum blank length

Hi, all

Just picked up an old fiberglass boat/pier rod that I want to strip and set up for use with a small conventional reel. I thought that a spiral wrap would allow be to hold onto the rod better when I start to doze off, but it's a short blank, maybe 48 inches beyond the handle.

Is a spiral wrap practical?

I have built them as short as 4'9" total length...and that was with @#$%& Acid rollers...not exactly the easiest setup I've ever attempted. It will work. Use the bumper wrap.

I've built a couple of jigging rods for ice fishing 30 to 36" long and spiral wrapped them.

I found the shorter parabolic rods (or any parabolic rod) need the guides spaced closer together in the transition (or whatever) area. This is my own theory for the rods I've built, 6'6 graphite Tuna rods.
