How to correct the problem? Use a combination of all these options: (A) - Move the Butt Guide further away from the reel spool a few more inches. (B) - Increase the Butt Guide's ring size and / or ring height. (C) - Use a more supple brand of fishing line and / or a lower pound test. (D) - If it is a spinning rod, FEATHER the lip of the reel spool with your finger more while the line is paying out during the free-flight of the lure on the cast. (This is the easiest solution, and usually helps.) (E) - Check the fishing line, to see if some wild line twist is stored up in the line. Just pull 3 to 5 feet of the line off the reel. Let it sit out, and see how "wound-up" like a crazy spring it is. How to prevent line twist is a bit of a pain, because of "pre-twisted" spools of fishing lines these days. ... See this important RBO Thread for more information: Re: Line twist- I'm at the end of my rope ... Tom Kirkman ... 04/15/06 ... 08:18PM ... [www.rodbuilding.org] "No, it's not your fault - many lines are actually "pre-twisted" by the manufacturers these days. Some years ago, line was spooled directly from the main line machine onto line spools. ..." ETC Danny, as Spencer Phipps pointed out, if you provide more specific information about this line slapping; and the rod & reel, the butt guide style / size / distances (to spool; to tip); and about the fishing line you are using, maybe you / we can get this problem licked in short order. ...
