I found one source for the bark...ordered some today. He's sending a box ~ 12"x9"x8" of canoe scrap for $25 incl. ship. I've been looking ever since Antti first posted his pics. [www.barkcanoe.com] Re: birch bark source

Not having read the artical in question, I do however know birch bark has a high content of oil, and great for starting fires when winter camping and its been pointed out as an excellent survival fule source becuse of its high oil content, which is great for burning but not so good for adhearing and like (oily) Teak wood even when dried requires the degreasing mating surfaces for best results Re: birch bark source

Here is a link to an eariler post that contained a like to a place in Maine where my wife used to get bark for many craft projects, it did not have a high oil content.
