Being able to press your nail into the finish after 24 hours is not unusual. It usually takes a few days to completely cure. Keep in mind that it's never going to be rock hard. It needs to be somewhat flexible. What are divided cups?? Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: soft finsh

Depending on the temp I have seen finish take 3 days to harden to the point where you don't leave fingerprints if you press real hard. That is when the basement only gets to about 60 degrees. Gets kinda cold up here in the winter. Give a couple more days and it should harden a bit more. Re: soft finsh

Most all finish epoxies take at least a few days to totally cure. Some even take up to a week. I usually make it a practice to put the last coat of finish on a rod, then let it sit for a good three-six days before I fish it. Sometimes it really, really tries my patience, as I want to get it on the water. For the last couple of rods I've used Threadmaster finish. It's probably the most user-friendly finish I've ever used, and it seemed to completely cure in about 3 days or so. I've even heard of folks fishing a rod with TM the next day. I wouldn't be comfortable with that, but I can tell you that 3 days seems to be plenty for TM. Re: soft finsh

ThreadMaster rocks!! Always make SURE you are mixing the epoxy you're using at a 1-1 ratio and mix for at least 2 min. Bill in WV Re: soft finsh

I think if you do a search here and type in threadmaster ALL DATES, [www.rodbuilding.org] you will get a ton of info on Threadmaster. Most user friendly finish that I have ever used. Has some great characteristics that you might want to read up on Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: soft finsh

I'm with Mike,
I really like the Threadmaster, I've done several of my own rods with it and have been VERY pleased. I laid the 2nd coat of epoxy on my last rod at 10pm, at 6am the next morning I took the rod fishing. The threadmaster sets up that well for me. One other note, the mixing 2 minutes applies to ALL the epoxy's and make sure to use a mixing tool that is FLAT (like a popsickle stick) this allows you to slowly "fold" the mix and does a much better job of mixing the two parts for me.
