How to to tighten the female ferrulle?

I have got a replacement top section for my 4-piece fly rodr that fits 3/8" too 1/2" further down on the male section than the previous one. Is any idea the make the female ferrulle opening a bit smaller by giving the inside of fit a coat with permagloss to give it a marginally smaller inside diameter or should I leave it as it is? Any other ideas?

About all you can do it just trim it back a bit. That will restore the original amount of ferrule overlap you had to begin with. Assuming the fit is already good, this would be an acceptable way to do this and most likely a much better and permanent solution compared to coating the outside of the male or inside of the female with anything.

I hate when I get a new female that's a little loose. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/21/2006 01:19PM by Scott Youschak. Re: How to to tighten the female ferrulle?

Dip the Male end into varnish and let it dry should tighten it up Re: How to to tighten the female ferrulle?

Cut or dip in varnish, I have done both and they both work. Re: How to to tighten the female ferrulle?

you did not say if the assembled length of your rod is the proper length. if it is then you whould not want to tighten the ferrule because that would make your rod longer than its designed length even though it is a small amount. if it is the proper length then what Tom said is what you should do because it won't modify the length of the assembled rod.
