Does anyone have experience with this rod coating? I ordered some from Merrick and after reading the instructuions it says " apply primer Step 1 of 3 (this a 3 part system) then apply color, 2-4 coats, then 2-3 coats of step3, clear finish.
This seems like a lot of coats resulting in a lot of weight and possibly affecting flexibility. Can anyone speak from experience on this product? Re: plasti-coat

I have found that a lot of stores in my area have changed over to Dupli-color ?? That is a lot for any thing light. Camelion paint? They have a site if you care to ask them any questions. I have used the gold and red metallic colors with good success Re: plasti-coat

If you're reading the instructions straight off a can of plasit coat, then I can understand why they list all those coats of primer, paint, and clear. We are rod building so ditch those instructions altogether. I rarely bother with a primer coat unless my blank is completely oposite in color than the paint I'm going to use. Usually a couple of dust coats is about all you will need. Permagloss over that with one or two coats and forget about it!

Jay is right. Just try to put the least amount of paint on you can yet still cover. I usually do them out in the sunlight to see the coverage well. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
