Overseas components

I know this may have been coverd before, but I couldn't find any links. I am seeing some kick butt reel seats come from Asia somewhere, and was wondering where can I get my hands on this stuff. Some of the colored seats are just awesome and the design is different from what is supplied here. I love daiwas new reel seats on their rods and I do get requests from time to time about the basspro and berkley seats that are just like a modified ECS seat with the blank exposed area very much opened. Thanks for any help if possible, Bryan.

Bryan,
The Series One Berkeley rods have had that style seat since the late 80's that I can remember. I own a few of them and copied the cutout design on my rods that used the old Pac Bay wood reelseats. They were nice looking but heavy due to the stabilized wood, never really liked the Pac Bay graphite skeleton so I used Fuji usually.
Merrick has some of the fancy seats, Summer Moon, Dan Craft, and I bet others can get you a retail order if you need one.

I've seen and used some of the Merrick products. They are just painted fuji seats, and not worth the price for some of them but, they are very nice. The styles is what I'm really after, just something different, that's cool looking. Later.

Bryan - The large company's you mentioned have those "different" reel seats made just for them - they are proprietary - and not available to other companies or rod builders (in Asia or the USA). Regarding the colored or painted graphite seats we have found that the painted finishes just don't last.

Regards.

I have recently been "painting" reel seats with colored permagloss. If you mix silver or another metal color with one of the metal flake colors (Testors) you can make some awesome color combinations that look just like the Japan painted Fuji seats. To customize the seats more - trim the threads, turn trigger seats into Forhan models, or use skeleton components for spinning and trigger reel seats (weibe or split a Fuji seat). I have also recently been using mettalic "anodizing" spray paint to color chrome-colored components like winding checks and reel seat screw down bands into purple, green, red, blue, and gold colors. Next rod will have purple "anodozed" guides matched to the rest of the trim over a purple/green chameleon colored blank. I too want different things and these are some of the things I have tried.

Try RainShadow/Forecast This is a Batson company, they are located in the sponcors list on the left. They have some cool reelseats that came out last year.Give Bill Batson a call. The number is toll free 1-877-875-2381. Explain to Bill what you want and I am sure he can set you up. If you like you can tell Bill that Bob Balcombe told you to call him

The Rainshadow/Forecast reel seats you are talking about that they call flip green are being discontinued. I just sold my last two I had in my inventory and now have had several other request for them.
