I'm building a rod that is going to be donated to our local TU chapter to be @#$%& off. I origanly was planning on writing Tour Unlimted on the rod. Is this going to be a copy write infringement? Thanks for the help.

Safest thing to do is to contact TU's legal department and simply tell them what your intentions are and let them tell you what you can do. Don't rely on other's opinions on this subject.
And, if they do give you permission . . . get it in writing!!!!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/06/2006 01:18PM by Ralph Tomaccio. Re: copy right laws

This might be of some help Joe.
[www.copyright.gov] I search the patent office myself from time to time and I see this website has a searchable records area as well. You may want to do a search here as well. If you write "Tour Unlimited" on the rod, I doubt you will be infringing on any copywrite You might get some strange stares though!

I did a rod as a Christmas gift last year for a neighborhood kid who also happens to be a huge NC State University fan. I called the NCSU copyright office (yes, they have an office & staff dedicated to copyright issues), explained the situation and requested permission to have a NCSU logo decal made. Once they knew it was going to be a gift, the nice lady sent me an e-mail of permission which I forwarded to Deb at Decal Connection and in a few days, the decal was in hand.

Hi Joe,
I guess I should have explained the links above a little further. Just like the patent office if there is a copywrite on the words you would like to have printed on the rod then most likely there will be contact information to the person, business, group, organization, ect... listed with the copywrite. Contacting the entity who has corywritten/trademarked the terms if so might be a little easier after searching the copywrites and trademark listings I figured.
