Does anyone know the spool diameter of Shimano's 1000 series reels? The smallest Shimano I have on hand is their 2500 series. For that I usually use a 25 butt guide. I'm wondering if a 25 is in order for the 1000 reels or can I get away with a 20? Anyone know the size? Thanks.

I have an AX1000 and probably would stay with a 25.
Can't measure the spool right now though. Try both sizes and see what works best for you. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Butt Guide Size....Shimano 1000 series reel

Mine measured 1 1/2". I used a 25 butt guide on my last rod. Best way to tell is to test cast using the 25 and the 20 guides.
Hope this helps. rhr Re: Butt Guide Size....Shimano 1000 series reel

It's going to depend more on the line size you use than the reel size.

The 1000 spools are about 47 mm diameter. As Tom mentioned, it will depend on your line as well, but I am thinking on a reel that size, you'll be looking at 8lb test mono, 10 lb tops. Braid will be thinner and allow and even smaller guide. I'd say to cover all your bases use the 25. Re: Butt Guide Size....Shimano 1000 series reel
