Dancraft FT906

Could anyone provide me with some advice on this blank? Probably going to get one for my next build, will more than likely then sell my XP 7wt. Will the FT handle all the things my XP can? I'm finding myself getting more and more annoyed by the fact that my XP is a 2pce and transporting it can be a problem. Also will the FT906 cope with the 7wt line I already have?

All comments from builders or casters of this blank welcome.

Thanks

Daniel

The FT 905 is a closer match to the XP 7 weight. The FT 906 has a bit more power and will certainly handle your 7 weight line in most cases but it all depends on how you intend to fish the line.

My 7 wt FT handles my 7 wt line just right....But the 6 wt FT should be great, too...

Take it for what you think it is worth. Mine does everything what I demand from roll cast to ordinary casts with either WF or DT 6 line.

I use my 6wy FT for everything from nymphing for trout , to dry flies with a floating line , to spring stripers with a 250GR sink-tip and a #2 clouser . PLENTY of power , and a tip that can finness a dry fly . If I had to pick one rod out of the 20 or so fly rods I own , that would be the one . .................. Hands down .
Have fun , John NERBs .

It's a different 'feel' than the XP. If you are trying to match it, go with a SigV. That said, the 906-4 FT is a rocket and fishes GREAT with a longbelly WF in a 6wt...so it'd be fine with your WF7, too.

Cheers for the above.

Scott, I already built a 905 Sig V last year, great fly rod, but some of the reservoirs I fish here in the UK get horrendously windy, it's sometimes hard work with my 7 XP. I was thinking a FT #6 may fill this role while also being a more versatile rod, I'd like to try bonefishing again and it may be useful there. Plus its a 4 pce which i'm drawn to. Don't think i'll ever buy a 2 pce again.
