REC Recoils are nice , but if you laid out that kind of money for such a blank , you will be doing yourself no justice to use anything other than a nice set of SIC ringed giudes on that rod, for both strippers and running guides . REC make VERY nice seats as does a number of other manufacurers .
Fixed fighting butts are what I use (mostly) on that size rod , I've used detachable ones , but seldom take them off , the hardeware is also a bit heaiver. Do a search on "fly guides" or "snake guides" and you will find a ton of pros and cons to snake , wire , and incert guides . If you do decide to use wire guides , I highly recoment the REcoils in the singly foot style , 2 footed snakes have no place ona fly rod now a days ( 2 wraps with epoyx=weight where you do not want it , on the upper half of the rod ) with all of the technolegy available to MODERN builders( in my oppinion ) .Recoils are also available in 2 different wire guages , depending on fresh or salt and the fishing/abuse you will be doing . But , please do some research and concider using some SIC , available from most manufacturers, or Alconites available from Fuji ( less $$ , a bit heavier , but very nice guides) . If you have any questions , feel free to e-mail me . Have a great time , John Dow , North East Rod Builders .NERBs Got Fish ? Re: new rod blank!
