Heddon Bamboo Furreal Colouring

I am currently restoring a heddon 125 & 20 . I was wandering if anyone knows? What to use to paint the yellow on the furreals yellow on the #125 Expert . The #20 is a basic black so that shouldn't be to difficult.. Thanks Paul Re: Heddon Bamboo Furreal Colouring

Hi Paul,
Both the black colored ferrules and the gold colored ferrules on Heddon rods are finished with a process known as "japanning." Basically it is a colored lacquer that is applied. Black japanning lacquer is available from some of the outfits that carry materials for tying salmon flies. I'm not certain how to get the gold color. I have used gold leaf paint in the past to get "okay" results. Wish I could be more help, Harry Boyd Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
