Is it possible to shape eva handle grips? If so what would be the best method? thanks for help.

If you can spin them either on a lathe or on a piece of threaded rod chucked in a drill sand paper or sand screen(for drywall) will remove the eva.If you need to remove alot start out coarse and progress to finer grit as you get close to the size you want.It seems when the abrasive gets hot the material comes off faster s be careful. After the last grade of sandpaper I use a piece of a shop rag to buff the final product and remove most of the sanding dust.

How do you cut and shape a butt cap made of eva?

I have one that I need to cut to fit a matrix handle, any ideas? I surely don't want to put a hole in the middle of to lathe it up :)

How about cutting it with a hot knife? anyone tried that?

Duane,I use a 1/4 inch hole made with a sharpened piece of brass tubing from a hobby store as a hole cutter.(makes a clean hole). Then remove the eva from the tube and glue it back in.Sand the tube with 320 wet or dry to thin the walls to make the fit tighter.

fred, thanks for the info on the eva, the grip is off the blank. Since I read your advice, I put it on an old blank and spun it on my lathe using fine sand paper, it is coming along slow but good. Thanks for your help to all.

Fred, et al..

My Hypalon is on the blank. I know now I should have tapered it before putting on the blank..

I do not have a lathe, so how would you recommend tapering the fit? I may just have to use it as straight grip. Looks a little funny, but not too bad..

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank Fred,

I tried that last nite and figured it would take me forever to do...

I'm thinking of trying it again tonight while I watch 24..

I was going to try to make a PVC chuck and use my drill, but being of a non-mechnical nature, I sort of figured I would wreck the rest of the rod..

Thanks Hank!
I did that "on the blank" as shown in the photos.
Used a power wrapper but the job could have
been done without power as well just slower
to do.
