Hello:

I would like to know what is your experience using flytying tinsel (french, oval) on rods?
Any great ideas?

Thanks!

All the fly tinsel I have is quite thick , and who knows what it's made out of (finish problems) Like Billy said , there are a ton of different metalics on the market , though I don't recall seeing any round stuff .
What will it be used for , just trim , or decorative in the butt section . You could always wrap some on a piece of scrap blank and do an epoxy test . Have Fun , John, NERBS

I use Mylar flytying tinsel all the time! Silver, gold, hologram....all make great single inlays when you want somethin a little bolder than a single strand of thread. I used silver for the center underwrap inlay on this one: [www.rodbuilding.org]
Looks almost like a chrome ring.

Almost? That is what I see in the picture. Different, nice-bright uniform look ... Excellent!
Now I have some use, another than flies, for rods.
Thanks!

There is a product called Micro Tinsel from Uni products that I use for fine tinsel on some of the flies that I tie.

Yes, I had used it, too. Another excellent product, actually the one I ordered to a friend that went too a flyshop last week. But instead, He was given the product I am asking information about.
I found that there are more UNI products that can be used for decorating a rod. Check their web-site.

Thanks!

Yes, but I´d say it is more the wish and thrill to experience new products or old wellknown flytying products that could be used for rodbuilding, our passion. One of the many, at least.

Cool, with these comments you all gave me, I´ll start ASAP.
