I have a friend who wishes to cut split a one piece surf rod into a 2 piece, where he wants to split it the blank measures 16mm. What size ferrule does he need. He will be using the brass type ferrrule.
Thanks in advance. Re: Help with Ferrule

Ferrules usually come in 1/64 in increments. Re: Help with Ferrule

Get with Mudhole to make sure as its been many years since I messed with a ferrule, but I think the American Tackle FRR ferrule in 16 mm size would be the one. Re: Help with Ferrule

One bit of advice, Measure the blank where you intend to cut it and then order the ferrule you think will fit there. But do not actually cut the blank. Most times, the ferrule will be a tad off, up or down, and if you pre-cut the blank you'll be hard pressed to get a perfect fit. So, get the ferrule in, measure the ID and then transfer that to the blank and make the cut in the appropriate location. Just an inch or so up or down can mean all the difference in a good fit or in having to stop and order another ferrule.

A couple of thoughts. Make sure your friend understands that the rod will change. It will not be be the same rod. Tom also has great advice. Big John Rio Hondo, Texas Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting Re: Help with Ferrule

I thought that brass ferrules went out with brass reel seats and chrome plated brass guides. I simply can't imagine anyone putting a brass ferrule on a saltwater rod -- or any rod for that matter.
