Thinking about purchasing a 10 ft 4wt rod for nymph fishing two blanks im considering are the dan Craft ft1004-4 or the allstar baf 1004-2 the dan craft was featured in the ccs data chart looks to me like its more of a six weight rod the allstar was not listed anyone had any experience with either of these?how do they cast? I've used the DanCraft rod you mention for nymph frishing with great success. It is very versatile and will handle a wide range of line weights. You only need to match up your line with the way you use the rod. The rod handles fish well using fairly light tippets. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: blank comparison

Steve,
You probably didn't read it wrong. Tom was just trying to make you get in the right mindset. The Dan Craft will fish many line weights well, depending on your situation, as all rods will. The ERN simply means that it will load a 6 wt line at 30 feet fully. It doesn't mean that it won't load just as well with 40 ft of 5 wt, or that it won't nymph a 4 wt well due to it's light tip. You're reading values in there that were never implied. It's going to be up to you to find the right line types/combos that get the job done for you, just as any rod. The Austin blanks I've done and read about have been pretty spot on as far as ERNs go. Re: blank comparison

Im sure the rod is great im just worried that it will feel a little too stiff with a 4 weight line most of the casting will be under 30 feet more of a high stick nymphing approach.plus most of the trout in my local streams run on the small side so while I dont ever want to stress a fish out with to small a rod I still want to have some fun fighting the fish on a lighter rod.

Given the criteria you present I believe the Dan Craft 1003-4 would be a good choice if you desire a 10' rod. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
