Thanks guys. Simple tools shouldn't have to cost a lot of cash. I have another one that I made out of precut wood strips that I picked up at Michaels for about half the cost of the aluminum one, that works just as well and actually looks much better. I made the aluminum one though for durability after I knocked the wood one onto the floor a few times because I'm an idiot. A lot of options out there for something like this. I tried the vacuum cleaner method but the noise drives me nuts, so I'll stick to manual hold down.

Great idea. I assume those are aluminum bars that you're using for shims - where did you track those down?

I picked up the aluminum at Lowe's. Home Depot has them too. They are available in various sizes and lengths. I used very thin brass washers to shim the top plate for the saw gap.
