What do you more experienced guys have the best luck with for an underwrap paint to prevent the " blotcheys " when using a light colored thread? Also, how do you apply it? I have gotten much better at thoroughly packing my wraps as I go and I'm washing hands a lot being careful not to contaminate my CP. I like the look of many of the lighter threads but they are a %&$*#!@ to keep the " blotcheys " off. Thanks

I'm doing a rod right now with white NCP underwraps and overwraps. I taped off the underwrap areas, lightly scuffed the blank and sprayed with Krylon white primer. I feel confident that the wraps will be white, and not grey/white.

Good topic, i am asking the same questions.....i have found that meticulous packing does the trick, but i just ran into an brick wall about 2 hrs ago, did a two sided star (black/gunmetal) overwrapped with scarlet....packed,packed and packed some more....the spacing was great using the visualwrap, cp'd it and it looked very nice prior to epoxy.....applied epoxy and was disappointed to see some bleedthrough of the black. just curious as to other opinions as to what causes the blotches and bleedthrough. is it the application of cp? is there a cp that seems to be better at penetrating tight threads? i am baffled as to how something that was so right before epoxy has been marred by the bleed through.......i am not counting out the factor that i did not completly cp the entire wrap and the blothes are simply the scarlet threads turning translucent.

You can also paint the area where the guide goes, maybe a quick coat of permagloss, then wrap over.

I'm not all that experienced, but have found that underwrapping with Sulky metallic silver or using silver mylar holographic tape helps a lot with light threads.
