ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

After combing the search function to learn more about the resin hard, and what to do, I settled on the old microwave trick. I have the entry level putup, the small 2 oz size, where the resin went like snow....kinda chalky and very stiff.
I have a medium power radar unit, so I thought 10 seconds would do it. It still looked hard, so I gave it 10 more. This time, it was quite warm, but still hard. W-r-o-n-g.....it was hard on top !!!! I remembered some of the warnings iin the search threads, so I stopped, thought, and stirred. As soon as I stirred it some, wow, it turned to gravy immediately !!!! Oops.... That's my bottom line: try stirring right off, after the first microwave hit. I use shish-kebob bamboo skewers a lot, which make great stir sticks, because they are thin and strong, and not much resin clings to them when punted. Edited 1 time(s). Ken,
Rod Bond is supposed to be very thick and cling to your application tool. It should be least as thick as petroleum jelly (Vaseline) Most us 2 craft sticks to "scoop" it out and mix it together. It sound like your Rod Bond was right before you tried the microwave. If you can actually stir it, it's way to thin. Some use a quick hit in a microwave to warm epoxy FINISH, but I haven't heard of using it for Rod Bond or any adhesive. Re: ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

Yes, Mike.....understood.... but prior to warming as per search thread, it was flaky, hard, crystalline....it came out of the jar like pieces of stone. hardly petroleum jelly consistancy.
Nowhere in my post did I say I used it 'hot'...I did not.. I just wanted to get it ready for use....all search threads I saw did not advise to stir it after a warm, to not fall into the same trap I did....overwarm. I used it this morning....as it is just the consistancy you describe, as it should be. Best, KD Re: ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

I've had to do it to the Rod Bond, also, Ken. I use 5 second "blasts" between checking it.
It's probably associated with cooler storage temperatures. The whitish colored resin gets kind of grainy in texture and much thicker than it is normally. The surface of the resin IS the last to turn back to it's normal state when microwaved to get it's original consistency back. I'll try your stirring trick next time-that sounds good. Just let it return to room temperature before using it is all. Putter Williston, ND Re: ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

I've had KArdol do just this, except I got small dots which looked like Mold. Which is scary, because it may very well be. THat is an evil way to gt even with a pain in the butt cstomer, find out what they're allergic to, mix it in to teh epoxy, wet sand teh grips with it. lol. Re: ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

My Rod Bond had what appeared to be little lumps of solid in the white portion. Not liking microwave ovens, I heated a pan of water until it was too warm for comfort but not hot enough to burn my finger, took the pan off of the heat and put in the Rod bond for 10 or 15 minutes. No more lumps! Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

Ralph, you've never lived until you put some of our gunk in momma's microwave and watch her face as we do it!! So much fun for such a small price!! LOL!! Putter Williston, ND Re: ROD BOND WARMING REVISITED....

Sorry, Ken! Misunderstood. I thought you were trying to get it thin!!
