Just got my NTT, I removed one of the spindles on the thread carriage of my PacBay power wrapper and installed it. At full magnet resistance the thread comes out with noticeable tension. QUESTION : IS IT ENOUGH TENSION FOR WRAPPING GUIDES ON THE LARGER SALTWATER RODS ? Thanks.

I would have to say it is enough.Tension should be similiar for a small spinning rod all the way up to a heavy salt rod IMO.Too much tension will not allow the blank to flex normally leading to failure.Tight enough so that the guides can be manipulaed for alignment is where I set the tension at.

I outwrap for a living and I use the same tension for everything. from ultralites to saltwater rods. I've wrapped thousands of rods and haven't had a problem yet.

Theres so much tension on mine that it pulls the magnets apart unless I use at least two of the paper spacers. Never had a problem with loose guides.

I quit using mine for the same reason Grant described. Even with multiple papers sandwiched in there I couldn't keep the magnets together. Even the little 100yard spools would break the bond. I may try it again soon...after all, I've got two of the little suckers laying around.

I mounted an L shaped piece of metal on the original PB tray. The metal piece had holes where I mounted 2 NTT's horizontally. If I replace the paper between magnets frequently then the tension feels just right. The paper seems to get dirty and slick rather quickly. I like to use 1 piece of plain 20lb copier paper.

Thomas as an outwapper. I would think you would hold your thread spool in your hand. An not bother with a tension device

I use a bobbin to hold my spool and adjust the tension by bending the arms of the bobbin. Most of the thread we get as outwrappers is on four ounce spools. Most outwrapper I know set the spool on the ground and run the tread through their fingers for tension. I download thread from the four ounce spools onto smaller spools.
