Extending a blank

I've never tried this before, and I've got a customer wanting a G Loomis CB847 extended to 8 feet long.

Would it be foolish to try it for the first time on a client's rod?

Is the process listed someplace?

An extensive article on how to do this properly was in a past issue of RodMaker. Really, a very comprehensive article on this technique which can really open up a new avenue for custom rod builders wishing to do more than just stick with factory actions and powers. Look for it in volume 6 #3.

Cool, Tom. Thanks. I think I actually have that one, but it's in storage, so I might have to order another one. We'll see if I can find mine.

There are blanks that are 7'10" long 1 Pc? Don't know if they are any good for your customer ?
Less to extend.

Not to hijack you thread but I am interested in this as well

I had a though of using a clear, hollow plexi rod with a removable buttcap so you can put a lightstick inside.

I do a lot of night fishing.

Wylie Wiggins had one he gave at the RodMaker reception on Saturday night in Charlotte. It had a laser in the butt shining up into the rod. With the laser on, the whole rod lit up. When the tip bent (FISH ON!!), the part of the rod bent did not light up... pretty darned cool!

I think Mark Crouse incorporated the switch into the butt of the handle so when the butt cap was turned, the laser turned off and on. This thing was REALLY neat!
