I am attempting to build my first fly rod. My son won a handle assembly at the rod show so we are building this one together. My question is this. How do you get your guide spacing? Is it the same as if you are building a spinning rod? Thanks for your help. Re: first fly rod

Check out the library on the top of this page . All the answers are in the static guide placement artical . Start there and if you have any specific questions , you can ask them . To answer your question is it the same , it's quite simmilar to a spinning rod . Start with 1 guide per foot of blank , then add or take a guide out to get the line to follow the bend in the blank . The easy way out is to look at a chart for any 8' rod and set it up like that , then adjust as needed with the static placement articals instructions.
It's a bit time consueming , but well worht the effort . Have fun , John Got Fish ? Re: first fly rod
