after building a few flyrods before finding out about this forum I ran my first static test(per toms instructions in the library) on a 10 1/2 ft noodle rod Im converting into a flyrod for steelhead (john nagy influenced)this is the second such rod. The 1st one I built and used for years I built from a guide placement chart ,so with the new wealth of knowledge Ive acquired from you guys I set out to build a better more precise one keeping my old one for a back up.The static test went pretty good I ended up with 12 guides not including the tip top, this is one more guide than I had planed on .I figured with the extreme flexablity of this rod one more guide might be required what do you guys think?also would it be better to use fishing line instead of the flyline to run through the guides?the flyline seemed a little wavy runing through the guides.
Thanx steve Re: static test

I don't think 12 guides plus top on a 10 and half foot noodle rod is excessive. If that's what it takes, that's what it takes.
I prefer hi-vis orange dacron for my static testing. It's easy to see and lies flat. ........ Re: static test

If it worries you, try taking one guide off and reset and retest. Some times the " gut feeling " says more Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
