I am looking for some recommendtions for a blank to built up as a Tog(black fish) rod. It will be built conventional at around 6' 6". Looking to drop 6-10oz. with it. Thanks for the info. Tight Lines

Been over 30 years since I fished for Togs in Chesapeake Bay. I think a Seeker CLB 708, and you can shorten the butt if you like, would work for you.

Where are you fishing? Party Boat, Private boat? What location? Braid, Mono?

I do quite a bit of Blackfishing from Party Boats. My favorite is a GUSA 80 Mega Mag cut down. CAlstar 800L cut down is also sweet, imo - those are teh 2 best blanks to use for Toggin. More Tog have been killed with a cut down LAmi 1143F than all the other blanks combined.

i have to agree with the Lami 1143F right now...LOL

built my tog rods on graphite usa sw65h blanks. They also serve me well for fluke here in N.J. when the fish are deep and have a fast drift. Handles a 10 ounce weight no problem.

I made three Calstar Graphiter's for a local charter captain for tuna chunking. Used a CALGF760L6 blank, a Fuji BPS-29 24G seat, Fuji TNSG guides (yes, it's crazy, but they are WAY stronger than most realize), and slick butt. The guy loved them for tuna, and when he took them on a tog trip recently, he said it was the nicest tog rod he's ever fished (and he's been doing this a long time). He said the combination of crazy-stiff butt and "sort of flexible" tip worked out beautifully.

I personally use a Lamiglas CGBT 841M for tog, and love it. Another suggestion would be a Lamiglas CGBT 841MH.

Mike, I just finished a Graphite USA BSW65H that I cut down to 6'. I havent used it yet but I cant wait till October when TG season opens LI NY, I think I have a winner. I wanted to try graphite for tog because of the sensitivity, with tog you got to be on top of things or you'll get robbed blind. The Lamiglass' mentioned above should work extremely well too.
