At the Charlotte show this weekend My wife was the lucky winner of a Lamiglas Popping rod blank. Me being a fly fisherman and fly rod builder am not quite sure what to do with this blank. My quick research indicates that it can be built as a spinning rod or a casting rod. Am I correct here, or does it need some other treatment? Thanks for any help
I had a great time at the show. Re: Popping rod

I forgot to mention the rod specs. that may be helpful. Lamiglas IMP844-3 its 7" - 3 piece for 8-17 lb line.
I'd like to make it a spinning rod if that'll work. Thanks again. Re: Popping rod

Would make a better casting rod IMHO but as a med/heavy spinning rod it would work as well! Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Popping rod

Michael,
You and I should have swapped. I won a fly rod that I did not really have a use for. I have build several 844's for casting rods. Excellant casting rod! I was able to swap the fly rod for a spinning rod I liked with the people at Custom Tackle and Supply. Fair trade for both of us. Ed Smith Re: Popping rod

Michael:
I use a lot of popping blanks to build crank bait rods. They have a little bit slower action which gives the fish and extra second to inhale a bait before the hook set. Also is a little more forgiving in that it is harder for a fish to throw the hooks on a crank bait using these rods. Because of the softness of these blanks.
